It’s that wonderful time of year again when Artbox offer 20% off all their products in celebration of Hello Kitty’s Birthday with the voucher code ‘birthday‘ at the checkout! Every year for the past three years I’ve taken advantage of this amazing deal, as they are the cheapest retailers of Moomin merchandise, so even more of a discount is always appreciated. This offer is only valid until the end of November 1st 2013, please don’t miss out! So, what have I bought?! Well, most of my order consists of Christmas presents for my friend Nina in Finland, but I got myself a couple of things that I can share here without ruining the surprise:
This is just a short post whilst I’ve arrived at glastonbury festival about the outfits I’ll be wearing over the week. It’s always such a pain to choose what to wear for a festival. You want to look relatively nice but you also don’t want to take anything you don’t mind not bringing back… I personally hate wearing something other people have, so I learnt to sew a year ago and finally made use of my spare finlayson bedding. I bought my first piece of bedding 4-5 years ago when I had a single bed, but then I had no use for it when I got a double. Tomm’s mum offered to cut it in half and use one piece with extra fabric to make it fit my double so I was thrilled!
For Glastonbury I decided to make two halter neck tops and brought along my two dresses which most of my moomin friends have already seen. Remember that I’ve been traveling for about 6 hours and I’ve had to pack everything so my dresses aren’t in their best condition, they’re usually crease-free!
It’s a shame that items from the Arabia Moomin range must be discontinued, but this means there will be new products coming soon. For collectors, this means having to rush around to source these products before they increase in value – therefore, I have compiled a list of the products and where to find them for the best prices.
Happy first day of spring! I expect Snufkin will be arriving in Moominvalley today and will whistle under Moomintroll’s window to let him know he is there, then he will start his adventures with his friends – annoying the park keeper, playing his mouth organ and let’s not forget sitting around the campfire with a mug of hot coffee. Do you think Snufkin drinks from this Arabia mug?
One of the most collectible pieces of merchandise in the Moomin community has to be the mugs. I always swore I would never collect them because there are so many and they are very expensive – the most costly one being upwards of £3,000. But when I arrived in Finland in the summer of 2011, I couldn’t help but grab a couple that were on sale for 10€. And that’s where my collection began.Every year Arabia release at least three mugs – a character one in spring, a limited edition summer one and a limited edition Christmas/winter one. Last year there were five which included the usual three as well as one to celebrate Helsinki winning the World Design Capital and one to celebrate Stockmann’s 150th anniversary.
For 2013, you can now pre-order the character ones at Artbox – yes, there are two this year! These are Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden to replace the old ones from 1999 and 2001.
At £14.50 each (£16.25 including postage, or free on orders over £20), these are competitively the cheapest place to get any of the Arabia mugs outside of Finland. You’ll find them elsewhere for around £17, sometimes without postage so you should definitely snap up this bargain! Be quick because once all the preorders are gone, they are unsure as to when they will be getting new stock.
